Board of Directors

Cal Millar

Cal Millar serves as President of Channel Zero Inc., a company he co-founded in 2000. Mr. Millar holds a graduate degree in Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business and brings over 30 years of experience in finance and investor relations, business operations, and development opportunities to Channel Zero.   

An internationally recognized ICD.D designation holder, Mr. Millar is an active board member of ThinkTV and the Canadian Journalism Collective, and serves as Chair of the Local Independent Television Services Group.   

Beyond broadcasting, he is also active in other industries, having served on the board of Lake of Bays Brewing, JointCraft and on several Not-for-Profit boards, including Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and the YMCA.  

Mr. Millar remains dedicated to supporting and empowering small, local Canadian media. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a sharp eye for opportunity, he continues to pursue ventures that strengthen and evolve Canada’s news and entertainment landscape.  

Prior to founding Channel Zero, Mr. Millar served as President of Impact Graffiti Inc., a Toronto-based advertising agency, and held senior roles with both private and publicly traded companies, including Frisco Bay Industries, where he served as Vice President and General Manager.  

Peter Hussell

Peter Hussell is co-founder of fundraising consulting firm F+H Partners. From offices in Toronto and Chicago, F+H Partners supports not-for-profits in building capacity and raising funds to realize their missions.   

With more than 20 years in the field, Peter has worked with companies and clients across North America, with a particular focus on cultural and educational institutions. Prior to consulting, he served as Chief Development Officer of the Cleveland Institute of Music and Toronto Symphony Orchestra and has also been a key member of fundraising teams with the Canadian Opera Company, Sarasota Opera, and Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts with a specialization in cultural management from the University of Waterloo. 

Sarah Thompson

Sarah Thompson is the Executive Managing Director of Glassroom and a nationally recognized strategist with a career spanning leadership roles at Dentsu, Mindshare, and Cossette. She drives growth for brands, advocates for ethical media investment, and authored the landmark Canadian Media Means Business report. Sarah also serves on the boards of the DAAC, the CMDC, and Vividata. Her industry contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2025 Canadian Media Champion award from AdClub Toronto and the Media Leader of the Year Award from the Young Professionals of the CMDC.  

Scot Keith  

Scot Keith is the founder and President/CEO of One Twenty-Three West (123w), an idea and design collective based in Vancouver and Toronto which won Canada’s Small Agency of the Year award in 2020. Scot has helped lead campaigns that have won or been nominated for over 500 awards, including Hockey Canada’s “Relax, it’s just a Game” which was featured on Oprah. He has spoken all over the world, including the Cannes International Festival of Creativity. 

Randy Kitt

Vice Chair

Randy Kitt is the Director of Media at Unifor, Canada’s largest private sector union. A graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Radio and Television Arts program, Kitt worked at TSN, Discovery Channel Canada, CTV, and Bell Media for over 20 years as a production video editor, editing news, show openings, features, documentaries, commercials, and promotions.  

Kitt worked his way up the local 79M leadership as a steward, secretary, and local president. He was elected as Unifor’s first Media Chairperson, serving on the union’s National Executive Board before being hired as a National Representative. 

As Unifor’s Media Director, Kitt is responsible for the direction of media policy, bargaining and enforcing collective agreements and the protection of journalists and media workers. 

Unifor fights tirelessly, not only for its members’ rights and protections, but for a vibrant Canadian Media landscape that champions Canadian content and supports local news and a healthy democracy.

Janet Ramcharitar

Board Chair

Janet Ramcharitar is an experienced Senior HR Executive specializing in global talent management, diversity, equity, and inclusion and organizational transformation. Currently, as Vice President of Global Talent at Altus Group, she has led significant advancements in performance management, DEI and leadership development leveraging a broad spectrum of strategies including AI integration. Her career includes impactful roles at ACCO Brands and Coca-Cola Refreshments, where she has driven talent alignment with business objectives, led comprehensive DEI strategies, and managed high-profile change management initiatives.  Janet’s approach is anchored in fostering inclusive cultures that inspire creativity and engagement.  Holding an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability, she is recognized for her ability to merge strategic HR practices with sustainable business growth. 

Gregory Taylor

Gregory Taylor is an associate professor in the University of Calgary’s Department of Communication, Media, and Film, where his teaching and research focuses on the politics and economics of the Canadian broadcasting and wireless industries. His first book, Shut Off: The Canadian Digital Television Transition (McGill-Queen’s, 2013), was shortlisted for the 2014 Donner Prize for Best Public Policy Book by a Canadian. Gregory received his PhD from McGill University in 2010.
